A Fresh Start: How RESET is Changing Lives

At Vineyard Compassion, we believe in second chances, and Jack’s story (name changed for privacy) is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do.

Jack first came to us through our Link Logs programme, where he heard about RESET, our social supermarket, from Jeremy, one of our team members. At the time, Jack was in a difficult place, he was on bail and awaiting further sentencing, but he was determined to turn things around.

Over the past six months, Jack has been fully engaging with RESET. He’s learned how to save, budget, and manage his money better, while also becoming part of a supportive community. The practical help and positive environment have been life-changing for him.

RESET hasn’t just been about budgeting for Jack, it’s given him the opportunity to grow in every area of life. He’s been attending external courses and discovering a real sense of enjoyment and purpose. It’s been amazing to see him grow socially, practically, and emotionally.

Melanie Gibson, who oversees our RESET programme, puts it perfectly: "RESET is about more than just providing affordable food, it’s about helping people to take control of their lives. Seeing individuals like Jack grow in confidence and hope for the future is why we do what we do. At RESET, we believe everyone deserves the chance to rebuild, and it’s an honour to walk alongside them on that journey."

One moment that stood out for Jack was being able to save enough to buy himself a brand-new winter jacket. This may be something many of us take for granted, but for Jack, it was a significant achievement, something he worked hard for and took real pride in. Moments like this bring joy and highlight just how far he’s come.

Jack is also incredibly thankful for the discounted food RESET provides. It’s helped him free up money to focus on other priorities, and he’s loved the variety of food on offer.

Looking to the future, Jack is full of determination. His ultimate goal is to build a stable life and regain access to his children. With RESET’s support and his own drive to succeed, he’s taking steady steps towards that brighter future.

RESET is so much more than just a social supermarket, it’s a place of hope, growth, and transformation. Jack’s story shows what’s possible when people are given the right tools and support to rebuild their lives.
